What exactly is peak shaving?

Peak Shaving literally means ‘shaving off’ the peaks in your energy consumption. At times when your business or installation requires more power than your grid connection can handle, a battery provides temporary additional energy. Once the peak has passed, the battery is recharged — for example, using cheaper off-peak electricity or sustainably generated energy from solar panels.

This keeps your consumption within the limits of your grid connection, prevents grid congestion, and saves you the costs of grid reinforcement or higher capacity tariffs.
